Japanese woodblock print titled Night Rain at Matsuchiyama by Ando Hiroshige III (1843-1894). The print is part of the Thirty-six Views of Modern Tokyo series, published in 1874. Dimensions are approximately 9 3/4 inches high by 7 1/2 inches wide. The artwork is mounted on a board and has undergone trimming. It also exhibits a centerfold. The composition features a serene waterfront scene with boats, buildings, trees, and rain falling softly, indicative of the Edo-period landscapes that Hiroshige III was known for. Hiroshige III, working in the late Edo and early Meiji periods, was famous for continuing the tradition of ukiyo-e landscape prints initiated by his predecessors.
