Description

This captivating Japanese woodblock print titled 'Poppy (ポッピイ)' is by the renowned artist Rakuzan Nakayama (中山楽山, 1886-1942), known for his exceptional 'kacho-e' (bird-and-flower) style. This print exemplifies his mastery and is part of a popular floral series from the Taishō or early Shōwa period (c. 1920s-1930s). Dimensions: 11 1/2 x 17. Condition: The paper exhibits significant, even age-related toning, appearing yellowish-tan throughout. There are minor foxing spots and small stains visible, particularly on the left-side background. The left edge appears cut, suggesting it was removed from a larger portfolio or album, and the edges show minor wear. Despite these condition issues, the vibrant colors of the print remain aesthetically pleasing, enhancing its decorative and collectible appeal. Rakuzan produced several series of woodblock prints published by the Murakami Company of Kyoto, gaining popularity both domestically and internationally.
