This is an 1851 United States silver three-cent piece, commonly known as a 'trime'. The obverse features a six-pointed star with a shield of the Union at its center, surrounded by the legend 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA'. The reverse displays the Roman numeral 'III' within a large, ornamented letter 'C', encircled by 13 stars, with the date '1851' below. This coin is a Type 1, composed of 75% silver and 25% copper, and was the smallest silver coin ever produced by the U.S. Mint. It shows heavy wear consistent with a 'Good' (G) numismatic grade.
