The print is a horizontal oban format depicting a scene from Act IV of the famous tale 'Chushingura' (The Tale of the 47 Ronin). The title in the right cartouche reads 'Chūyū Gishin-roku Dai-shi' (忠雄義臣録 第四), or 'Record of the Loyal and Brave Retainers, Act 4'. The scene shows the loyal retainers gathered outside the gate of their master's mansion after he was forced to commit seppuku. The signature in the cartouche reads 'Ichiyōsai Toyokuni hitsu' (一陽斎豊國筆). A publisher's mark for 'Nihon Mokuhan Insatsu' (日本木版印刷) is visible at the bottom right, confirming its status as a modern reproduction. The piece is professionally framed and matted.
